# Molecule MCP

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code to your Molecule data, then ask your own AI app about your sales and ads.

**Molecule MCP** connects the AI app you already use (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code) to your company's data in Molecule. Ask it about sales, spend, ROAS and your ads, right in your own app. If your plan and role allow, it can also do work for you: plan new campaigns and ads in LaunchPad drafts and, with your yes, change ad spend.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way AI apps connect to outside tools. There is no key to copy. Your app opens Molecule in your browser; you sign in, pick the company and approve.

## What you need

* **A plan with MCP:** Starter and above.
* **An AI app that supports MCP with sign-in:** Claude Code, Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code. Steps for each are in [Connect your AI app](/mcp/connect-your-ai-app.md).
* **Your role:** every member can connect an app that reads. Making changes and changing ad spend are for admins.

## Three levels of access

| Level | What your AI app can do | Who gets it |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Read** | Sales and ad performance, Molecule attribution, live numbers for today, ads on Meta, Google Ads and TikTok, every Google keyword and search term, creatives, competitors, launches and Autopilot. It can't change anything. | Every member, on Starter and above |
| **Make changes** | Changes that cost nothing on their own: LaunchPad drafts with new campaigns, ad sets and copies of ads, negative keywords and UTM tracking on Google Ads (with your yes), dashboard charts, tracked competitors, banners (these use your image credits). It can't turn anything on or launch anything. | Admins, if your plan includes changes over MCP |
| **Change ad spend** | Turn ads, ad sets, campaigns and Google keywords on or off (up to 500 in one go), raise or cut daily budgets, add keywords to Google Search ad groups, apply budget cards and publish LaunchPad drafts. Each change takes two steps and your yes. | Admins, if your plan includes ad-spend changes over MCP |

The sign-in screen shows which levels your app gets, and why it can't have the others. The full list is in [What your AI app can do](/mcp/what-your-ai-app-can-do.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
**ChatGPT can only read for now.** Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code can get all three levels.
{% endhint %}

## Get started

1. In Molecule, open **MCP** in the menu.
2. Choose your app and follow its step.
3. Your app opens Molecule in your browser. Sign in, pick the company and click **Approve**.
4. Back in your app, ask: *"Which ad platforms and Shopify are connected in Molecule?"*

A connection belongs to one company. To use another company, connect again and pick it.

## Good first questions

* "What did we spend last week, broken down by channel?"
* "Compare spend and sales last week with the week before."
* "Why did spend change last week versus the week before? Break it down by channel."
* "How are we doing today across our ad platforms and Shopify?"
* "Which Google search terms spent money last month without a conversion?"

Your app answers with numbers from Molecule. It says which ones come from Molecule attribution and which come from the ad platforms' own reporting, because the two count sales differently (see [Why your numbers don't match](https://docs.moleculedata.com/understanding-your-data/why-your-numbers-dont-match)).
