# Getting Started

{% hint style="info" %}
**IMPORTANT:** This part is the crucial part of our product. If you do this part incorrectly, we will not be able to provide you with our core product features and reports. Of course, we will help you along the way with detailed instructions + live customer support to ensure we have completed this task correctly. Furthermore, it will be important for you to continue doing this the same way when creating new campaigns in all the supported channels.
{% endhint %}

## The basics

There are many different ways you can implement changes. Every marketer usually has their beloved UTM parameters structure for their channels. You don’t need to worry about this part. During the tutorial, we will explain how to maintain most of your channel's current UTM structure so that other tools like Google Analytics reporting are not disturbed.

If you do not know what UTM parameters are, please read [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTM_parameters) or watch this [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNRgUq5sDhc). Google has developed a nice handy [page](https://ga-dev-tools.web.app/campaign-url-builder/) to generate yours without making mistakes. You can find this page [here](https://ga-dev-tools.web.app/campaign-url-builder/). This is just information that is handy to know. For Molecule Data to work properly, you must copy and paste the provided code in the necessary field. This information and how to implement it will follow in the next pages.

# Tracking Facebook Ads

**COPY THIS UTM PARAMETERS STRING**

```
utm_source=social&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}&utm_term={{adset.name}}&utm_content={{campaign.id}}|{{adset.id}}|{{ad.id}}
```

**In your Meta Ads Manager account go to:**

1. Click on the tab **Ads**
2. Select **all active ads**

<figure><img src="/files/dxtO2RNJvQxdPj9SbDbL" alt=""><figcaption><p>Select all active ads</p></figcaption></figure>

3\. Click the **“Edit”** button at the top of the menu.&#x20;

4\. **Paste** the code that you copied from the section before in the highlighted field -> **URL parameters**.

<figure><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/mWKGZy_jqkbUIJ9pJJsyMC9Tm25tZgLo0D9ytY3P3M8F9cXRztPFYN36FJTzVprtBD-lh0KFTipAaL5A_u2BXV3cljaN-s1qMqQ8u4_AUixzl0oUy7t_xDM6BXK7AhwJEWJ688cJPS0Qz22dRkeT_5I" alt=""><figcaption><p>Paste the code in the highlighted field</p></figcaption></figure>

5\. Remove all the UTM parameters (keep the actual link), if you have any in the “**Website URL**” field.

<figure><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/BQBWs74UTNRffSPCxZivI5WhIeFwgSQWLlVqY7Nnyno8Z1piZqxo_FehRiwbtkDqsaIAztNM4fbInShdhjgjV-coXuzgrVnDmNMlV0cqPN27OKgyUPrFzaAu1AwtfAxUp-6r4rAF16KoTB0X2mIzDIs" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6\. Click **“Publish”.**

That's all you need to do. Now all of your ads will be tracked and correctly attributed to your models in the dashboard.

**You can also make these changes in bulk.**

1. In the “**Ads**” tab, **Select all active ads**.
2. In the top menu bar **-> URL parameters**

<figure><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pdmJ1_hYuTfI3UjO2vQq2Vp_VQLC4XOJ4PUlWE2tZ3LGxch2lhUNt1UWqCVZdXvHaTZ3zhbvSUOzg7kYm5d2g7dzH1YA5Y0WZJUE0rLI1c5pL31iQ1_yAkRcB162Myz3m7JdOoDc1ZB1GPBP9V02Y1XbVGOhT3UmIGxK2JZfuc5eAabDQs4aERStDA" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3\. In the Highlighted field, paste the code you copied.

<figure><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/jdGXvLs0VFbnaIuyysqkVkabKw8LULt5dIeqXgx2jP8Xd0kfuVo-i5-2_cyDSumeqQ7QMyx238saX3shaX7HQHqxqDnzW3e0CtSRn7-bWrzmyPSU3SAOJ29B-4_OxMDZwfpat03Gu3SnUba6Weog4z0it3xhDmvPZaR3DfyV7suKjdjBJRlb7_WGNg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**You are now ready to.**

IMPORTANT:

If you are an advanced UTM parameters user, it might be crucial to keep your previous utm\_source, utm\_medium, and utm\_campaign fields consistent with values you are using from the past. This is not a problem with Molecule Data.

You can change all of the values listed below to your liking:

* utm\_source&#x20;
* utm\_medium&#x20;
* utm\_campaign&#x20;
* utm\_term

For example the tracking template could look like this:

> utm\_source=**facebook**\&utm\_medium=paid\&utm\_campaign={{campaign.name}}\&utm\_term={{adset.name}}\&utm\_content={{campaign.id}}%7C{{adset.id}}%7C{{ad.id}}

Or like this

> utm\_source=**facebook**\&utm\_medium=**cpc**\&utm\_campaign={{campaign.name}}\&utm\_term={{adset.name}}\&utm\_content={{campaign.id}}%7C{{adset.id}}%7C{{ad.id}}

**IMPORTANT:**

It is recommended not to change the utm\_content part. If you need it to be a specific value, it is possible to change it too. In that case you would need to add `&ref={{campaign.id}}%7C{{adset.id}}%7C{{ad.id}}` at the end of your full custom tracking template.

An example of such would look like this:

`utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}&utm_term={{adset.name}}&utm_content=xyz&ref={{campaign.id}}%7C{{adset.id}}%7C{{ad.id}}`

Please stick with a certain consistent tracking template that has one or the other option and is placed in the correct field. Only in such cases can we ensure consistent and accurate campaign / adset / ad performance tracking in the Molecule Data dashboard.

**IMPORTANT:**

If you had already used a tracking template before in all of your ads and a value of {{ad.id}} is in any of the UTM parameters fields, we can automatically map it in the reporting, so no changes or adjustments are needed. Please contact our support team if you have questions about it.

# Tracking Google Adwords

{% hint style="info" %}
Our automated reporting will not show accurate data without these changes. It is important to make these changes.
{% endhint %}

**COPY THIS UTM PARAMETERS STRING**

```
{lpurl}?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign={campaignid}&utm_content={campaignid}|{adgroupid}|{creative}&utm_term={keyword}|{product_id}
```

Google Adwords makes it easier to implement the tracking template compared to Meta. You will only need to copy the tracking template above and paste it into the account settings and each campaign's settings optionally. All ads will be automatically prepopulated with the necessary values when the user clicks the ads. No necessary change needs to be made on the ad level.

**IMPORTANT:**

If you already have placed the UTM parameters on the ad level for any type of campaign, tracking templates in account and campaign level will not overwrite those, so it is important to remove any UTM parameters from actual ads.

**Follow these steps to implement the tracking templates successfully:**

1. Copy the tracking template above.
2. In the Google Adwords account, navigate to the top level of the account campaigns structure by clicking on the highlighted button in the Adwords interface.

<figure><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/OG2YNHEmoTmMBIh35dpa9KD4-diWMiKEu_VMwuyGcMP7-ocP_kuEwZp2lxh8TUd9pmcNp2emIaByPHGCKjTbh9RWE6T4op0WoSW_FK_9IlGGMiAKiLcuAsW0cm84Jixjp73uGETUzaiG276PYupZClFWB0E3ZvGDlGTiw2f-2e3InpiyodpT7Ax_rA" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3\. Click the highlighted “Account settings” button on the left sidebar.

<figure><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/TkX5dguWslvZP6AlwpnBPAWBI0qukPJ3xIkzMcGmEyPbBj9OSOwIjLpDeFxGBLdv8osCi6X4QAgy0kZ9bYLKBJrmBhJ2Njr7INVB0FTDgTwRgZeagFHAUNGifegw1as-ORZdUVVqasrUIAHE8OllnAcNcRt53JSSHHRgdNr1wSTx-VpHvF6OZk7E3Q" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4\. Find the “**Tracking**” section.

<figure><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/7hH8YcmnsK0gZ-mo1bRvF94kmImuPUTZ4m8bDTm3PLAm8x2smufXlwMr4toFLpGoH_M25f3Bdx4zdtIcDKj5l7Fv3taCQjw56fT6yvdH-vATnV1zOylo6WaJ7_2S9UpN8ktZAxc57iHAzJklBRiIUi17KT12_2WdSYw3S3AjnTn3N10IEYaqCHGzwg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5\. Paste the tracking template you copied from the first step.

<figure><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ZIf7zTxJMQfOeIxgJxEojPPXrHMaUXornOLAQ6l-tw3ll4Tmtm2OB8BlRcS-9g5qWJ569N1WFNhgIBJAkENCJ1Yo90HPOXuEqxTJUlTeustXvkJ-NjYzBJRMwc84LQtJeApAkmC19DUkSsjfcJK3LjQO4G3YaIGQ-fHYqoIxJGkXFoFAVtArrugEmw" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6\. Click **“Save”.**

Now let's do the same on each campaign:

1. Navigate to the campaign **Settings** section you want to update the tracking template and expand the menu by clicking on the “**Additional settings**” button.

<figure><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/9AjCLsEM2y9fzEMV-BZQcpnwYBcGnKJiXRMd_qcOzIvyG0y_9kmP2xDZvdStigBPawyrVZERMuAa_Zlu0zyVMnqghTE_h4llIe5pidir5qy645RouFda1nNlOm6rUUGadwA4sPgAmdi1mN2VPrk4cBg5Ky4PyG5tHU4MP7Tjpcp5g-NI55iNbPKW0A" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2\. Find the highlighted “**Campaign URL options**” sections and open them.

<figure><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/SkJ8RTI4wF7oVTpO76KKTqh1JLAv-rdDpiwhqNg_iRAlfJvuAmc30IkVijrW93E9CltgBztCvxGuf0QX2qPAt4zGwZKf43oimw_t1LB6vFukurjT4voS2aMjfuSwx7qAEOyUxts21jU3GB5KiifUBZ9IvR_GCzFhQv653FPVvoGXAj1swq13HGftnQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3\. Paste the tracking template you have copied in the first part of this tutorial of the Google Adwords section.

<figure><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-nqpbqHIFQptmlmn-e56huSScW89GXI3eYud1IyX94eP54r-4c0IDrEL0_UU3wponU0cjlYO0z8pFvj7v66PA8T6uMa8x2QtjhByxvLRt1pPIG1oqvL0spj4I-QQoyYysp6benVyu7KgNgImi5DQhBPhVyGw4mI4WA7M60LTuJXAqNw81PRPXfkJ9g" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4\. Click **“Save”.**

**IMPORTANT:**

If you are running Youtube ads, those campaigns will not have the option to change the tracking template on the campaign level. You will have to paste the tracking template into the youtube video ads themselves.

1. In each ad, you need to click the “**Edit**” ad, find the highlighted place **Ad URL options (advance)**, and paste the tracking template you copied from the first part of the Google Adwords tutorial.

<figure><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/NC93SCwmu3iokr2mODs9LJX5Cnb1EZn9WBnU3d0-q5fKpqyDcf2vO390Zl-XfugQnVAcBnscE7DvgxPApAbghAuHyrpZd-6EMUIbL0h8zptO1mBkmBcN9x1dYXj7FMYSbhed-p1_c7QcH70_XWMUaGzCKG8p2oyPuXSYjL9SlmXtHNyrnuxleLyKZg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2\. Save each ad.

**That's all. We are done integrating the tracking templates!**

**IMPORTANT:**

If you are an advanced UTM parameters user, it might be crucial to keep your previous utm\_source, utm\_medium, and utm\_campaign fields consistent with values you are using from the past. This is not a problem with Molecule Data.

You can change all of the values listed below to your liking:

* utm\_source&#x20;
* utm\_medium&#x20;
* utm\_campaign&#x20;
* utm\_term

For example, the tracking template could look like thi&#x73;**:**

> {lpurl}?utm\_source=google\&utm\_medium=**paid**\&utm\_campaign={campaignid}\&utm\_content={campaignid}|{adgroupid}|{creative}\&utm\_term={keyword}|{product\_id}

Or like this

> {lpurl}?utm\_source=**adwords**\&utm\_medium=**paid**\&utm\_campaign=my\_campaign\_name\&utm\_content={campaignid}|{adgroupid}|{creative}\&utm\_term={keyword}|{product\_id}

And so on…

IMPORTANT:

It is recommended not to change the utm\_content part. If you need it to be a specific value, it is possible to change it too. In that case, you would need to add **`&ref={campaignid}|{adgroupid}|{creative}`** it at the end of your full custom tracking template.

An example of such would look like this:

`{lpurl}?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=my_campaign_name&utm_content=xyz&utm_term={keyword}|{product_id}&ref={campaignid}|{adgroupid}|{creative}`

It is important to stick with a certain consistent tracking template that has one or the other option and is placed in the correct field with the {creative} dynamic parameter. Only in such cases can we ensure consistent and accurate campaign / adset / ad performance tracking in the Molecule Data dashboard.

**IMPORTANT:**

If you had already used a tracking template before in all of your ads and a value of `{creative}` is in any of the UTM parameters fields, we can automatically map it in the reporting, so no changes or adjustments are needed. Please contact our support team if you have any questions about it.

# Tracking TikTok

**COPY THIS UTM PARAMETERS STRING**

```
?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=__CAMPAIGN_NAME__&utm_term=__AID_NAME__&utm_content=__CAMPAIGN_ID__|__AID__|__CID__
```

**In your TikTok Ads Manager account go to:**

1. Click on the tab **Ads**
2. Select **ad you want to track**
3. **In the URL section past your full website url + UTM parameters string**

<figure><img src="/files/ntjewMaagCAyjasfZ9Lf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Example:

<https://yourwebsite.com??utm\\_source=tiktok\\&utm\\_medium=paid\\&utm\\_campaign=\\_\\_CAMPAIGN\\_NAME\\_\\_\\&utm\\_term=\\_\\_AID\\_NAME\\_\\_\\&utm\\_content=\\_\\_CAMPAIGN\\_ID\\_\\_|\\_\\_AID\\_\\_|\\_\\_CID\\_\\>\_

# Tracking Snapchat

**COPY THIS UTM PARAMETERS STRING**

```
?utm_source=snapchat&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}&utm_term={{adSet.name}}&utm_content={{campaign.id}}_{{adSet.id}}_{{ad.id}}
```

**In your Snap Ads Manager account, go to:**

1. Click on the tab **Ads**
2. Select **ad you want to track**
3. **In the URL section past your complete website url + UTM parameters string**

<figure><img src="/files/IBmai22drMNO6rTANd9c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
If your website URL has a <mark style="color:red;">"?"</mark> sign, your UTM parameters should start with a "&" sign instead.

Instead of `?utm_source=snapchat` , you would use `&utm_source=snapchat`
{% endhint %}

Example:

`https://yourwebsiteurl.com?utm_source=snapchat&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}{{adSet.name}}{{creative.name}}{{ad.id}}&utm_content={{campaign.id}}{{adSet.id}}_{{ad.id}}`
